Understanding the 4Cs of Diamonds
When shopping for an engagement ring, the first thing you need to understand is the 4Cs: Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat weight. These four characteristics determine a diamond's quality and value.
Cut
The cut is arguably the most important factor in a diamond's beauty. A well-cut diamond will reflect light brilliantly, while a poorly cut one will appear dull. Look for diamonds graded as Excellent or Very Good.
Color
Diamond color is graded on a scale from D (colorless) to Z (light yellow). For most engagement rings, diamonds in the G-H range offer excellent value while appearing colorless to the naked eye.
Clarity
Clarity refers to the presence of internal inclusions or external blemishes. VS1 and VS2 grades are popular choices as inclusions are not visible without magnification.
Carat
Carat refers to the diamond's weight. While bigger isn't always better, most people prefer diamonds between 0.5 and 2 carats for engagement rings.
Popular Ring Styles
Solitaire
The classic solitaire features a single diamond on a simple band. This timeless style lets the diamond take center stage.
Halo
A halo setting surrounds the center stone with smaller diamonds, making the center stone appear larger and adding extra sparkle.
Three Stone
Three stone rings symbolize the past, present, and future of your relationship. They're both meaningful and stunning.
